TAP: Tap is a percussive style of dance that focuses on footwork and musicality. Dancers will learn to listen and understand the music through counts, tempos, rhythms, and patterns. Tap helps develop well rounded dancers.
JAZZ: Jazz class will focus on learning proper classic technique such as extensions, body isolations, leaps, turns, jumps and kicks, as well as improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Dancers work on stylizing their movement while also working on changing dynamics. Once a class has a strong understanding of Jazz technique, they can learn the styles that are derivative of it. Jazz is required for all Ensemble members.
LYRICAL/CONTEMPORARY: Both Lyrical and Contemporary are expressive genres of dance that focus on control and fluidity of movement, expanding on Ballet/Jazz technique. Understanding how your body moves through space, shifting of weight and momentum, floorwork, overall body strength and control, all play an important role in these styles of dance, while opening up students to their own creativity. The study of Ballet and/or Jazz are highly recommended in conjunction with Lyrical/Contemporary.
HIP HOP: Our Hip Hop classes are high-energy and low-pressure. We focus on conditioning and fitness, while teaching complex movements derived from multiple popular styles. We encourage students to bring their own individual style and personality to the movements.
TAP/HIP HOP COMBO: Our combo class offered to ages 5-6 and 6-7 will have your little dancer learning both Tap elements and Hip Hop grooves in one class session. Dancers will split their time in the class between the two genres, and even begin practicing main elements of Jazz (kicks, jumps, turns) during Hip Hop time. Getting loud and getting groovy~the best of two worlds! Start off your dancer's Tap/Hip Hop Combo year with our required Tap shoes and wait until teacher recommendation for Hip Hop shoes.
(Age 2.5-4) PRE-SCHOOL BALLET: Our Pre-Ballet class is a ballet-based class for ages 2.5-4.
This class is offered in sessions: Fall (September-December), Winter/Spring (January-June), with an opportunity to perform in our annual recital. The class schedule remains the same throughout the year.
Parents or our Pre-Ballet students may wait in our hallway during class time if you like, but it is not required.
Ballerinas wear pink leotards, Capezio "Ballet Pink" tights, and pink ballet shoes. Danseurs wear black pants and white shirts.
BALLET: Ballet is the foundation for most forms of dance and provides the strength and technique needed to flourish in all other dance styles. Additional benefits of Ballet include body alignment, quick study, flexibility, discipline, balance, coordination, agility, and posture.
BALLET TECHNIQUE: An additional Technique class is offered to our Beginning Elementary Ballet (Mini) level and up. The Ballet Technique class will not perform a routine which allows us to focus on technique and strength throughout the year. It is required for all Ensemble members.
PRE-POINTE ROUTE: Students with a desire to dance en Pointe in the future should add Ballet Technique in addition to their Ballet Routine class, as it is required for dancers to be enrolled in two hour-long Ballet classes for at least one year prior to going up en Pointe and thereafter. Commitment and discipline to study Ballet at a higher level is necessary.
POINTE: Dancers over the age of 10 may be invited to take Pointe. Two hour-long Ballet classes for at least one year prior to going up en Pointe and thereafter is required. Students dropping down to one Ballet Routine class should be advised that they would perform in soft Ballet shoes. Teacher recommendation is required as dancers without enough ankle strength can easily injure themselves. Doctor recommendation advised.
